Leah Sprints For the Win at the Westside Classic
by Courtney Albert
The racing this last Sunday at the 2010 TNA Westside Cycling Classic, presented
by Shape Properties and Mosaic Homes, was nothing but spicy! Despite the clouds
we had a great morning of weather and an incredibly successful morning of
racing!
The women’s race started off strong, there were attacks in the first few minutes
and the first time up the Camosun hill was fast and furious. The second lap saw
Shani furiously attack moments before the hill and resulted in a strung out
women’s field. The attacks kept coming, many of which were initiated by our
strong Red Truck women. A break finally stuck with four Red Truck gals doing our
best to protect our talented sprinter Leah. The Local Ride women were attacking
every few minutes but we covered all breaks without a problem. On the second to
last lap I launched an attack off the front at the start/finish hill and hoped
our girls were sitting in and letting the other teams tire themselves out
chasing me down. Once they caught me Noe launched another attack, perfectly
timed to further drain our opponent’s legs. It worked! On the final lap Noe lead
out Leah flawlessly and Leah sprinted for a huge win!
