The team has been super busy over the past couple of weeks, and there is a lot to catch up on! For me, it has been two full weeks on the road, travelling and racing my bike. I am writing this as I fly home from Quebec, where I was just racing the Grande Prix Cycliste Gatineau with the National Team. But I won’t get ahead of myself, I will start at the beginning and hope to keep the read interesting and not overly lengthy (no promises).
After an incredible week of riding with our sponsors in the mountains and along the beautiful coast surrounding Thousand Oaks California at team camp, the race team was prepped and excited for the first stage race since the early season trek to Redlands Bicycle Classic.
It is always nice to be able to race locally so I was happy to race this year's edition of the Provincial Track Championships at my home velodrome, with the event being hosted by the Greater Victoria Velodrome Association.
This past weekend was the BC Elite Provincial Road Championships, taking place in Aldergrove, BC, and put on by Escape Velocity (the people behind much of BC’s great race scene). Included was a 36km time trial on the Saturday, and — for the women — it was a 100km road race on the Sunday.
After three consecutive successful stage races, the TRT team was eager to play their cards at the 2018 edition of the Tour de Bloom, a four stage event set in the scenic areas surrounding Wenatchee, WA.
Quick check in from Thousand Oaks where the race team, master’s riders, and our awesome sponsors finally came together to properly kick off the 2018 season in the sunshine.
The last race of the Canadian National Road Championships was the criterium, held in old town Aylmer, Quebec. The course is a technical one, with many corners, and with a fast downhill stretch and an uphill finishing drag.
My first elite TT Provincials, my first 40km Time Trial, and my first race on my sweet new Trek Speed Concept! All in all, I am happy with how the day went. It was a very hot one out in the farmlands of Langley, and the TRT racers were getting ready for a slog of a TT.
The first Criterium of the year for the team lined up in Maple Ridge, BC on April 30th as part of the annual Race the Ridge stage race. The women’s team went into the crit with a solid plan, but also with many cards against us for the coming race.
