Enumclaw Stage Race – View from an Aging Ass Clown

The opening stage of Enumclaw involved an individual 10 km time trial. It was effectively an out-and-back with a minor descend on the way out, and a slight uphill coming home. I speak for the entire men’s team when I say, despite being just a 13-14-minute effort, it hurt!

A close battle at the tour of Walla Walla

The tour of Walla Walla marked the team's first stage race of the year south of the border, and a successful one at that. The journey began early Thursday morning as the riders met at the team vehicles before beginning the seven hour drive to the Walla Walla Valley.

Tour of Walla Walla: Seven Secrets to Success

The women’s team had a great weekend of racing taking 7 of 12 available podium spots over four stages, winning three group races, and taking 3rd and 4th in GC. Many sport psychology books suggest journaling about race experiences and noting the positives and negatives from a race. The key is to address the negatives, and celebrate the positives.

TRT makes a solid showing at the EV Stage Race

Saturday started at the infamous Aldor Acres where our TT would be held in the morning and the kermes in the afternoon. We all warmed up under one of the covered areas, trainers were set up close to where the baby bunnies and chickens were.

TRT nails first stage race of the year

Saturday morning the TRT race team lined up for the first stage race of the year, everyone (especially Kyle) glistening with fresh Californian tans. An excellent performance in the time trail put Isabella into the women GC lead. On the men’s side, Kyle rode to an impressive second place with the crit and road race to go.

TRT Camp Day 3: Duck Lunch

Day 3 of team camp is one of the highlight rides of the trip. The TRT annual tradition of a mid-ride stop for the duck lunch is a great opportunity to share quality company, food and wine.

Getting on Track for the Road Season

This past weekend was three days of racing for me, with two days of track racing and then I finished it off with the spring series on Sunday. It was a hard and fun weekend of racing that definitely finished off my prep for busy road season ahead!

Bradner Long – a Confidence boost after a long winter

This winter my training has been a little bit different, given that I am in full time university. I swapped warm weather base miles for trainer rides and Nordic skis. While I am so happy to be in school, I wasn’t really sure how my legs and riding were going to be at the beginning of the season.

Trek rider achieves highest level of academic success

A different kind of rider update: Today I successfully defended my PhD thesis in Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Columbia.  I was also informed that I have been nominated for the Governor General’s Gold Medal, which is one of the most prestigious academic awards in Canada.

Thunderbird Long "aka, not that hill again?!”

The 2018 race season kicked off this past weekend with the start of the Escape Velocity Spring Series Thunderbird Long road race. Despite some remnants of snow on the side of the road, the sun was out and it wasn’t actually too cold once we got racing.

Western Challenge: it feels awesome to ride bikes without brakes

“Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, tonight’s main event will be decided over sixteen kilometres.” It's Friday night at Burnaby Velodrome Club's Western Challenge. The elite men are lined up at the rail, about to begin their Split / Points race. I'm about seventh rider back — trying not to laugh too hard at Dylan Davies’ mock commentating.

Feelin' the burn!!

The Trek Red Truck ladies escaped the rain for the day and hit up Tag Cycling Studio for 90 minutes of pain led by manager Leah Guloien. With a focus on big gears and big watts, we'll be feeling the burn for a while!
